“The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
― Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

The History of Beartooth.
The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness was designated by the United States Congress in 1978. It contains more that 900,000 acres of beautiful and rugged terrain, with the highest peak reaching 12,799 feet above sea level. In June of 2023, myself and a group of eight other people set out to make a base camp around ten miles into the wilderness as the crow flies. We made it to around 8 or 9 thousand feet of elevation before establishing our home for the week.
There is nothing quite like the experience of living off the grid, even if just for a short time. The rest of the world disappears when you spend your time drinking from glacial streams, fishing in the rain, scaling boulder fields, bushwhacking through the forest, and washing your only clothes in a river. It was an all together humbling experience.
